OUR GUEST, MR. JORGE YANIER CASTELLANOS ORTA \u2013 <\/strong>The Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto, Canada. He has been working with the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) since 2011, which has included as Diplomatic Attach\u00e9 of the Division of North Africa and the Middle East, as well as a diplomatic post as Third Secretary at the Embassy of Cuba in Qatar. Mr. Castellanos Orta earned his diploma in Foreign Service at the Higher Institute of Foreign Relations \u201cRa\u00fal Roa Garc\u00eda\u201d in Havana, Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CELEBRATE 21 YEARS OF VANCOUVER COMMUNITIES IN SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA –<\/strong> On May 6th 2004, U.S. President George W. Bush announced a new set of attacks on the people of Cuba. This culminated in a $59 million plan, placing new travel restrictions on Cuban Americans and was ultimately aimed at overthrowing Cuba’s independent and revolutionary government. These new attacks caused worldwide outrage and generated increased international momentum in defense of Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In British Columbia, Canada this new momentum was led by young people, working people, and activists who came together to defend the gains of the Cuban revolution and Cuba’s right to self-determination. This initiative was named Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) and on June 26, 2004, VCSC organized it first action, a rally against new aggression by the U.S. against Cuba. The rally drew over 250 people in Vancouver in defense of Cuba and was incredibly energetic and dynamic. Now in 2025 we will celebrate 21 years of the ongoing work of VCSC, join us on May 31, 2025 as we gather to enjoy live music, some photos and videos of previous campaigns, our guest speaker & discussion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trabaja en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba (MINREX) desde 2011, donde ha desempe\u00f1ado los cargos de Agregado Diplom\u00e1tico de la Divisi\u00f3n de \u00c1frica del Norte y Medio Oriente, as\u00ed como el de Tercer Secretario en la Embajada de Cuba en Catar. El Sr. Castellanos Orta obtuvo su diploma en Servicio Exterior en el Instituto Superior de Relaciones Exteriores \u201cRa\u00fal Roa Garc\u00eda\u201d en La Habana, Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CELEBRAMOS 21 A\u00d1OS DE LAS COMUNIDADES DE VANCOUVER EN SOLIDARIDAD CON CUBA – <\/strong>El 6 de mayo de 2004, el presidente estadounidense George W. Bush anunci\u00f3 una nueva serie de ataques contra el pueblo cubano. Esto culmin\u00f3 en un plan de 59 millones de d\u00f3lares que impuso nuevas restricciones de viaje a los cubanoamericanos y cuyo objetivo final era derrocar al gobierno independiente y revolucionario de Cuba. Estos nuevos ataques causaron indignaci\u00f3n mundial y generaron un mayor impulso internacional en defensa de Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En Columbia Brit\u00e1nica, Canad\u00e1, este nuevo impulso fue liderado por j\u00f3venes, trabajadores y activistas que se unieron para defender los logros de la revoluci\u00f3n cubana y el derecho de Cuba a la autodeterminaci\u00f3n. Esta iniciativa se denomin\u00f3 las Comunidades de Vancouver en Solidaridad con Cuba (VCSC) y el 26 de junio de 2004, VCSC organiz\u00f3 su primera acci\u00f3n: una manifestaci\u00f3n contra las nuevas agresiones de Estados Unidos contra Cuba. La manifestaci\u00f3n, que reuni\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 250 personas en Vancouver en defensa de Cuba, fue incre\u00edblemente en\u00e9rgica y din\u00e1mica.
