Another Lie, Another Attack: U.S. Intensifies Its War on Cuba

Statement from Friends of Cuba Against the U.S. Blockade – Vancouver (FCAB-Vancouver)

Friends of Cuba Against the U.S. Blockade – Vancouver strongly condemns the latest U.S. campaign of lies and aggression against Cuba.

On May 13, 2025, the U.S. government escalated its campaign of warfare against Cuba by releasing a State Department statement designating Cuba as a country that “does not fully cooperate” with U.S. anti-terrorism efforts. This false accusation is yet another attempt to tighten the U.S. blockade and justify further economic sanctions against Cuba.

The recent attack is a continuation of the campaign of false accusations and lies that the U.S. government has been leading against Cuba by designating the country as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism” (SSOT). During his last week in office, outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden removed Cuba from this so-called list. However, on January 22, 2025, his first day in office, U.S. President Donald Trump added Cuba back to the SSOT list. This back-and-forth reversal of U.S. policies shows clearly the baselessness of these accusations against Cuba.

Designating Cuba as a “Not Fully Cooperating Country” with U.S. anti-terrorism efforts has nothing to do with terrorism and everything to do with punishing Cuba for defending its sovereignty. Cuba has a long-standing and internationally recognized commitment to peace and the fight against terrorism.

Cuba is far from being associated with terrorism. Unlike the U.S., which exports war and terror around the world, Cuba exports medical brigades and has provided thousands of humanitarian missions to countries in need.

As the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in response to the U.S. attack, “Once again, the [U.S.] State Department turns the fight against international terrorism into a unilateral political exercise against countries that do not bow to its hegemonic interests.” We encourage everyone to read the powerful statement by Cuba: https://cubaminrex.cu/en/repeating-lie-doesnt-make-it-true-cuba-does-not-support-terrorism

The cruel U.S. blockade, for over 65 years, impacts every aspect of life in Cuba. The blockade harms the Cuban economy, limiting access to basic goods such as food, fuel, medicine, and medical equipment. The latest hostile attack by the Trump administration adds to the suffering of the Cuban people, with the aim of isolating and destabilizing Cuba.

However, Cuba is not alone. We stand with Cuba and join the international movement to defend Cuba’s sovereignty and self-determination. Cuba has the right to exist in peace without the world’s largest economy blockading it from the world market.

FCAB-Vancouver will continue its ongoing activities and actions against the U.S. blockade and all hostile policies toward Cuba. We will remain committed to joining the Cuban people in the defence of their sovereignty and self-determination.

End the U.S. blockade of Cuba!

Remove Cuba from the list of “State Sponsors of Terrorism”!

Respect Cuba’s sovereignty and right to self-determination!
