Vancouver Joins the June 25 International Day of Action: Take Cuba Off the SSOT List!
On June 25 Friends of Cuba Against the U.S. Blockade – Vancouver (FCAB-Vancouver) joined in the #OffTheList international day of action initiated by the U.S.-based National Network on Cuba to call on U.S. President Joe Biden to immediately remove Cuba from the U.S.’s “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list (SSOT). The day of action began with the monthly #PuentesdeAmor Car Caravan which brought the demands against the criminal U.S. blockade on Cuba to the busy sunny streets of Vancouver. There was great support from people and cars that we passed by, including shouts of “Viva Cuba!” and enthusiastic honking.
The Car Caravan then made its way to the U.S. Consulate in Downtown Vancouver for the second part of the action – a spirited picket where participants united our voices to demand: Lift the blockade on Cuba now! Cuba si, bloqueo no! Biden remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism now! The action continued with a round of picketing, speakers and more chanting that echoed off the surrounding buildings.
The successful Car Caravan and picket at the U.S. Consulate was organized by Friends of Cuba Against the U.S. Blockade on Cuba and sponsored by Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba – VCSC, Vancouver Communist Party of Canada Marxist-Leninist, Supporters of the Communist League in Vancouver, Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice – Vancouver, Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) – Vancouver. Following the international days of action, FCAB-Vancouver and sponsoring groups are committed to continuing the monthly #PuentesdeAmor Car Caravans and will be out in the streets of Vancouver on Sunday, July 30. VCSC and FCAB-Vancouver will also have a Cuba solidarity contingent at the massive Vancouver Pride Parade on Sunday August 6.
