Since the announcement of re-establishing of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Unites States, we witnessed a number of steps towards “normalizing” relations. The U.S. was forced to take Cuba off its “State sponsor of terror” list, the Cuban flag flies proudly at the newly re-opened Cuban embassy in Washington DC and there has been the loosening of some trade and travel restrictions. However the U.S. Cuba relationship are still far from “normal”, the U.S. government still maintains its cruel and unjust blockade against Cuba and its illegal occupation of Guantánamo Bay.

As peace loving people in Canada we must stand with people of Cuba and reinforce our organizing and actions against the U.S. blockade on Cuba and to return Guantanamo to Cuba. Join us this January 17th in front of the U.S. consulate in Vancouver as we continue our struggle in the New Year to demand:

At our Annual General Meeting on September 4, 2015 the Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver changed our name and basis of unity to reflect the December 17, 2014 historic victory of the freedom of all of our Cuban Heroes. We committed ourselves to fight to end the cruel and inhuman US blockade against Cuba as “Friends of Cuba Against the U.S. Blockade – Vancouver.”

Protest at U.S. Embassy: End the illegal U.S. blockade against Cuba, return the occupied territory in Guantanamo and abolish all unjust U.S. laws targeting Cuba!

It has been one year since the US announced that it would abandon its bankrupt policy of trying to isolate Cuba internationally. This victory of the Cuban people was the result of the principled and consistent position taken by the Cuban government in defending their nation building project based on their own resources and initiative. This led to the release of the Cuban five heroes, the removal of Cuba from the list of terrorist countries which was totally unjustified, as well as the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

While Cuba is doing its part in working towards the normalization of relations with the US, President Raul Castro has rightly pointed out that the unjust and vicious economic blockade against Cuba which has been in place for more than fifty years must be lifted. As long as the U.S. economic war against Cuba continues, the US objective of negating and extinguishing Cuba’s right to self-determination and independence must be opposed in solidarity with the right of the Cuban people to determine their own future.

Ottawa Cuba Connections is proposing to establish monthly pickets at the US Embassy in Ottawa starting on December 17, 2015, to demand that the US immediately end its blockade of Cuba and stop interfering in Cuba’s domestic affairs.
Please join us at the US Embassy on Sussex Drive on January 17, 2016 at 1 pm and stand in solidarity with the Cuban government and people for their democratic right to live in peace and without foreign interference of any kind.

Desde el anuncio del restablecimiento de las relaciones diplomáticas entre Cuba y los Estados Unidos, hemos sido testigos de una serie de pasos hacia la “normalización” de las relaciones. EE.UU. se vio obligado a retirar a Cuba de la lista de países patrocinadores del terrorismo, la bandera cubana vuela con orgullo en la recientemente reabierta embajada cubana en Washington DC y se han suprimido algunas de las restricciones comerciales y de viaje entre los ambos paises. Sin embargo, la relación entre los Estados Unidos y Cuba todavía está lejos de ser “normal”, el gobierno de Estados Unidos aún mantiene su cruel e injusto bloqueo contra Cuba y la ocupación ilegal de Guantánamo.

Como amantes de la paz en Canadá debemos estar solidaridad con la gente de Cuba, reforzar nuestra organización y acciones en contra del bloqueo de EE.UU. , y solicitar el regreso de Guantánamo a Cuba. Únate a nosotros este 17 de enero frente al consulado de Estados Unidos en Vancouver a nuestra lucha en este nuevo Año demandando lo siguiente:

Ha ya transcurrido un año desde que los EE.UU. anunció que iba a abandonar su política de aislar a Cuba a nivel internacional. Esta victoria del pueblo cubano fue el resultado de la posición de principios y coherencia adoptada por el gobierno cubano en la defensa de su proyecto de construcción de la nación sobre la base de sus propios recursos. Esto llevó a la liberación de los cinco héroes cubanos, la eliminación de Cuba de la lista de países terroristas, totalmente injustificada, así como el restablecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas entre los dos países.

Mientras que Cuba hace su parte en el trabajo hacia la normalización de las relaciones con los EE.UU., el presidente Raúl Castro ha señalado con justa razón que el bloqueo económico y cruel contra Cuba, que ha estado en vigor durante más de cincuenta años, debe ser levantado. Mientras continúa la guerra económica de Estados Unidos contra Cuba, extinguir el derecho de Cuba a su autodeterminación e independencia debe ser impugnado en solidaridad, apoyando al pueblo cubano determinar soberanamente su propio futuro.

Conecciones Ottawa Cuba (Ottawa-Cuba Connections) propone realizar piquetes mensuales en la embajada estadounidense en Ottawa a partir del 17 de diciembre de 2015, para exigir que los EE.UU. poner fin de inmediato al bloqueo de Cuba y terminar con la intervención de este en los asuntos internos Cubanos.

Los invitamos cordialmente a unirse a nosotros en la Embajada de Estados Unidos en Sussex Drive el 17 de enero 2016 a 1pm de pie en solidaridad con el gobierno y el pueblo cubano por su derecho democrático a vivir en paz y sin injerencia extranjera de cualquier tipo.
